In collaboration with The Department of Italian Studies, Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Victoria University and the Centre for Diaspora and Transnational Studies, we welcome you to join us for a Book Launch of “Vivo per questo” and Concert with Italian hip-hop artist, writer and activist Amir Issaa! This event will take place on February 2nd from 5:45pm – 8:30pm at Father Madden Hall. Please see further details below. Born and raised in Rome to an Italian mother and an Egyptian father, Amir Issaa is an internationally renowned hip-hop artist who has creatively collaborated with many Italian and international artists over the decades. He is also a social activist and educator committed to the BLM agenda in Italy. As part of his activist work, he regularly holds rap writing workshops in schools, prisons, and colleges across the world. In 2017 Amir published his first book “Vivo per questo” (I live for this), a personal and artistic autobiography that illustrates the challenges and dreams of the so called “second generation” in Italy. In 2021 he released his second book “Educazione Rap” (Rap Education) that looks at rap as a poetic linguistic exercise as well as a shared experience across borders. Between 2015 and 2019 Amir conducted seven educational tours in the US, visiting 30 universities and colleges. For more information and contacts please visit Amir’s website amirissaa.com.
